                                                                                                
                            
                            
                            
{"id":237,"date":"2012-04-21T07:01:13","date_gmt":"2012-04-21T07:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sempervivum.org.uk\/?page_id=237"},"modified":"2013-09-01T14:29:58","modified_gmt":"2013-09-01T14:29:58","slug":"easter-event-2013","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sempervivum.org.uk\/?page_id=237","title":{"rendered":"Easter Event 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Exploring and Renewing, March 30th-April 6th<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>About Eigg<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year we will be spending the week on the beautiful island of Eigg.\u00a0 One of the inner Hebridean \u2018Small Isles\u2019, Eigg has a diverse landscape including the dramatic An Sgurr, several beautiful beaches including the famous \u2018singing sands\u2019, the Giant\u2019s Footstep loch and the longest exposed volcanic rock face in Europe! <a title=\"blocked::http:\/\/www.isleofeigg.org\/index.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.isleofeigg.org\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.isleofeigg.org\/index.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting there<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can get to Eigg by Ferry from Mallaig or Arisaig. The journey takes about an hour. Visitors are not allowed to bring cars onto Eigg, so once we\u2019re on the island, we\u2019ll be on foot, bike (bring your own, or rent on the island <a title=\"blocked::http:\/\/www.spanglefish.com\/eiggbikehire\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spanglefish.com\/eiggbikehire\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.spanglefish.com\/eiggbikehire\/<\/a>) or the island minibus.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re driving up to the ferry in Mallaig, you can park your car in the library car park for the week.\u00a0 There is also a good train service from Edinburgh and Glasgow\u00a0<a title=\"blocked::http:\/\/ojp.nationalrail.co.uk\/service\/planjourney\/search\" href=\"http:\/\/ojp.nationalrail.co.uk\/service\/planjourney\/search\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/ojp.nationalrail.co.uk\/service\/planjourney\/search<\/a>.\u00a0 You can catch a train early on the Saturday morning from Glasgow or Edinburgh and get to Mallaig in time for the ferry in the afternoon. If you can\u2019t get there for the ferry in the morning, you can stay overnight on Friday in a local B&amp;B\u00a0<a title=\"blocked::http:\/\/www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk\/mallaig.php\" href=\"http:\/\/www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk\/mallaig.php\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk\/mallaig.php<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>There is also a sleeper train service from London to Fort William: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seat61.com\/CaledonianSleepers.htm#Sleeper%20times\">www.seat61.com\/CaledonianSleepers.htm#Sleeper%20times<\/a>. Book three months in advance for the cheapest fares.<\/p>\n<p>The timetable for the CalMac ferry from Mallaig will be available on the website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calmac.co.uk\/\">http:\/\/www.calmac.co.uk\/<\/a> in January 2013. You can also cross from Arisaig on the small Sheerwater ferry <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arisaig.co.uk\/\">http:\/\/www.arisaig.co.uk\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We will meet the ferry with transport for you and your luggage, but if you fancy the walk, it\u2019s 20-30 minutes from the pier (including a steep hill!).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staying there<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have booked the Glebe Barn Hostel\u00a0<a title=\"blocked::http:\/\/www.glebebarn.co.uk\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.glebebarn.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.glebebarn.co.uk\/<\/a>, and Sandavore Farmhouse\u00a0<a title=\"blocked::http:\/\/www.piercottage.com\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.piercottage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.piercottage.com<\/a>. The farmhouse is 10-15 minutes walk from Glebe Barn.<\/p>\n<p>There will be space for small groups during the day in each of those venues and also in the Community Hall and a 16 foot yurt pitched outside Glebe Barn. Some groups may prefer to be outside, weather permitting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sleeping<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The booking form will allow you to say what your accommodation needs and wants are. To summarise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Glebe Barn: sleeps 22 in five rooms\/dorms<\/li>\n<li>Glebe Barn flat: sleeps 2 adults in the upstairs sleeping space (with sofa beds for two more).\u00a0 The kitchen\/living room will also be used as a workspace during the day.<\/li>\n<li>Sandavore Farmhouse: sleeps 6, two people per bedroom.\u00a0 The living room and kitchen may also be used as workspaces during the day.<\/li>\n<li>Camping: there\u2019s space for a few tents next to the hostel for those hardy enough (camping is free). &#8220;Own accommodation&#8221; rates apply for the week (see below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eating and other stuff<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are planning to prepare and eat our own meals in the kitchen at Glebe Barn.\u00a0 You can specify special diets on the booking form.\u00a0Eggy Bread, a local business, will bake our bread for us.\u00a0Sempervivum is run on a voluntary basis and there is always an element of voluntary help as part of the running of the week, so jobs like tidying and cleaning will be organised with a rota. Everyone, including teenagers, can sign up for a certain number of jobs in the week.<\/p>\n<p>We will be looking for volunteers to sign up to co-ordinate the meals for one day.\u00a0 This is less intimidating than it may sound, as we have a suggested menu of simple meals for each day (though you can suggest your own if you prefer) and you will have a small team of people to help you.\u00a0 If you\u2019re up for this, please sign up on the booking form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kids and teens<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There will be kids\u2019 club workers for younger children and teens, with activities to include crafts and outdoor pursuits such as archery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paying for it<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are suggesting three payment bands for the week.\u00a0The standard rates are for those staying in the accommodation we have booked, and the others are for those arranging their own accommodation (including camping). The event, which starts at 7pm, will feature the Molleson Grommit ceilidh band, and the Sempy and Vivum stand-up cabaret act performing the story of Sempervivum.
